I’m taking on the challenge of Stride4Stroke and raising funds for Stroke Foundation!
Hi there, I'm taking on the challenge of Stride4Stroke and raising funds for Stroke Foundation to help prevent stroke, save lives and enhance recovery.
In the next 11 minutes, someone, somewhere in Australia is going to have a stroke.
Stroke is one of Australia's biggest killers and doesn't discriminate; it affects anyone, anytime. It claims more lives than breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men. And incredibly, up to 120 babies and 400 children have a stroke in Australia each year.
By supporting me, you'll be helping to sustain vital programs and resources that Stroke Foundation provides, including:
Preventing Stroke:
- StrokeSafe Talks
- Australia's Biggest Blood Pressure Check
- Information Resources
Saving Lives:
- F.A.S.T. (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) Signs of Stroke Awareness
- Living Guidelines for Stroke Management
- InformMe Website for Health Professionals
Enhancing Recovery:
- StrokeLine
- My Stroke Journey
- EnableMe Website for Survivors of Stroke
Your support goes beyond just a donation; it's a lifeline for individuals at risk of stroke and survivors of stroke.
Thank you for supporting me. Together we can change the state of stroke in Australia for generations to come.
My Updates
It can happen to anyone.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am taking the challenge of Stride4Stroke and raising funds for Stroke Foundation.
EVERY 11 MINUTES SOMEONE IN AUSTRALIA HAS A STROKE!
So in the time it has taken me to write this post, 2 people have had strokes!! Those 2 people are the husbands, wife’s, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters or another loved one who has had their world and those of their relatives turned upside down, just as I did with my close relative.
For many the word Stroke will bring fear into your heart. It can be such a debilitating and disabling medical emergency that can definitely lead to major life changes, if not be deadly. This is more close to my heart than any medical condition for two real reasons;
Firstly, I have a close relative who recently suffered a stroke. Upon hearing of their diagnosis, I was mortified, wondering how they were affected and what the future outlook was for them. Fortunately they have had a very good response to treatment and is now nearly back to the same person they were.
Secondly, I personally have a medical condition that sees me being in a high bracket for susceptibility for a stroke. That is a really scary thing to hear and with me not getting any younger, this fundraiser has come along at just the right time. Stride4Stroke requires participants to walk, run, swim, push or one of a wide range of activities which I have committed to doing. I know my health is not the best and I need to lose weight (a lotta weight!) so what better time to work on this AND help such a valuable cause. I have committed to doing 30 minutes of exercise 5 days a week for the month of November but I plan on doing much more.
With fundraisers such as this I know I want to know what my donation is used for. The Stroke Foundation provides support in Preventing Stroke, Saving Lives and Enhancing Recovery. Further details are readily available on my page:
https://www.stride4stroke.org.au/fundraisers/billfuller/stride4stroke
And while you’re there, if you could manage a small donation it would really help me to reach my target of $500 or even go beyond it. I have self donated $53 to kick start my fundraising.
Even if you cannot afford to or do not wish to donate, please be aware of what the Stroke Foundation does and how it may be able to help you to learn more about Stroke and maybe even save a life.
Milestone day.
Just thinking.
29 years ago my father, Ray Fuller, passed away after having several strokes in a cluster. He had gone into hospital for a minor procedure a fit 75 year old, he would walk the 3 kilometres each day to our local post office and back to check his mail. He rarely received any but as he would say it kept him fit and active. He returned home from hospital feeling fine but he suffered a stroke while there. His symptoms were vague however his gait was very unsteady, having to have assistance to get over a 2 centimetre lip to the bathroom. We returned him to hospital where he soon went into a coma which he never came out of. To this day I still miss him, miss having chats and learning from him...So far I have helped Stroke Foundation deliver…
Initial advice and support from a health professional on StrokeLine
A stroke recovery pack to three survivors of stroke
Training to a StrokeSafe volunteer to deliver community talks.
Funding to stroke researchers to find the next game-changer in stroke.
