Daggy's Comeback Crew

Our team is taking on the challenge of Stride4Stroke and raising funds for Stroke Foundation!

This November, our family is taking part in the Stroke Foundation's annual Stride4Stroke challenge in support of our Dad, Darryl β€” also known to friends & family as 'Daggy'. In September, our lives were put on hold when he suffered an intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke. Thanks to the quick response & efforts of the Port Lincoln Hospital, Royal Flying Doctor Service & MedStar staff, Dad was urgently flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for life-saving treatment. He spent three crucial weeks in the ICU & has since been moved to the ward for ongoing care. We celebrate the the small improvements & milestones he achieves each day, but know that this is only the begining of his long journey to recovery.

In the next 11 minutes, someone, somewhere in Australia is going to have a stroke. It's one of the countrys biggest killers, impacting people of all ages - it claims more lives than breast cancer & prostate cancer each year. When a stroke occurs, time is critical. Recognising the F.A.S.T. (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) signs of stroke quickly can significantly reduce it's impact. 80% of strokes can also be prevented with regular health care checks with your GP & simple lifestyle choices, such as getting enough exercise, eating a healthly diet, restricting alcohol intake & smoking. Each member of our team will challenge themselves to complete at least 30 minutes of exercise 5 times a week throughout the month, with this being logged as our 'Moving Minutes'. Research shows that this amount of exercise can reduce stroke risk by upto 25 percent!

For us, Stride4Stroke is a chance to honor Darryl's resilience & contribute to the programs that are giving him & so many others a chance to reclaim their lives. With every stride, we’re helping raise awareness & funds for vital research, treatment advancements, rehabilitation & stroke prevention programs. This campaign goes beyond simply participating; it's a push for healthier futures for stroke survivors and their families.
